Where do I buy discs? What type of discs are there? How to get the most bang for my dollar?
These are all common questions you will have as a new enthusiast of the ever so popular not so popular game of disc golf.
I’m here to shed so light upon your Experience learning the craft call Disc Golf.
Let’s dive right in shall we. A common question I get asked when talking to friends and colleges that have interest in the sport are where do you even find discs to play? I start off by saying you just walk around the course and climb a big tree and you’re sure to find our beloved discs up in there. However that’s bad sportsmanship so I’m only joking. I would recommend finding the local disc golf shop usually located on the disc golf course and purchasing discs threw them. It’s quite nice to hold and feel all the different types and ask in person questions about each disc. That way your start the curve of your learning with people who’ve been playing for years.
When purchasing a discs you may not know what kinds of disc you will need. Well I’m here to clear up any confusion. If you’ve ever played or watched real golf you should always go with a 7iron it’s a well rounded club. However in this case there is no such thing. In disc golf you have 4 different types of discs starting with a putter, then midrange, fairway driver , and the big boy the distance driver. Having one of each will ensure total playability in all situations.
Like I stated earlier climbing a tree isn’t a bad way to find yourself a bag full of discs if you’re on the short end of the stick when it comes to money. However I wouldn’t recommend it falling would suck and morally obtaining somebody else’s disc they bought isn’t sportsman like. The shop usually has a used disc section where you can purchase somebody’s old faithful they didn’t need anymore or lost disc nobody claimed. Either way spending 8-10 dollars vs 15-20 or more might be a better way for you to understand the sport without breaking the bank.
Key points: Disc golf shops are usually on the course to buy and sell discs. There are 4 kinds of discs for any complete bag putter, midrange, fairway driver, and distance driver. The shop has a used disc section start there and work your way up to nicer discs so you’re not wasting your money.
